50 Shades of Dr Aprill (Podcast – Season 4, Ballistic Radio Episode 196, February 12th, 2017)

“If you’re aiming for mere survival and fall slightly short, you die.” — Dr William Aprill

Most people who carry firearms and reflect upon what that means often wonder how they will truly perform in a lethal force encounter. Sometimes they wonder if they will win. But how many consider dominating a lethal force encounter?

That is the topic DOCTOR William Aprill is on tonight’s show to discuss. What is dominance and can we apply it to lethal force encounters? How do our brains operate under stress and what is a shock threshold? Who wins and who loses in defensive scenarios and why? Are those who are prone to freezing in a situation forever resigned to that fate?

In part one of this two-part series, Aprill challenges us to think differently about our role in potential lethal encounters and aim higher in our skill while better understanding what prepares us for moments of overwhelming stress.
